God is Greater

I was reading 1 John last night and came across this verse, which is the verse before a passage we memorized during J127,

For whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything. 1 John 3:20

Isn't that amazing? We have absolutely no reason to live in our guilt because God already knows it and how much greater is he?

Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did...

Therefore, behold, I will allure her...

I sat marveling at the Word last night. I just sat there, on the world's least comfortable futon looking at this incredible book in my hands. A book that just breathes life. Because in the beginning was the Word. The Word was with God and the Word was God. And the Word held life and this life was the light of men.

Did you know that you can live on the Word? Jesus did. When he was tempted to break his fast, he said man does not live on bread alone, but every word of God. Jeremiah ate the Word and it was his joy and the delight of his heart.

God is greater than our guilt because the Word was, is and will be, and do you know what it says?

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ, for he himself is our peace

If the Son of man sets you free, you really are free indeed

For anyone who is in Christ, you are a new creation

I will have mercy on No Mercy and Not My People will be My People

But we have this hope, sure and steadfast as an anchor to our soul

God is greater than our heart

The Word is ours. Because God is greater. God is greater than our sin and greater than our perceived self-righteousness. He is greater than our self-loathing and condemnation and he is greater than our pride and arrogance.

Friends, please let yourself be washed in the Word. If you need help reading your Bible, please get it. Find a plan, find a partner, find a mentor, find a group. You won't regret it.

Grace greater than our sin

Marvelous grace of our loving Lord
Grace that exceeds our sin and guilt
Yonder on Calvary's mount out poured
There where the blood of the Lamb was spilt

Refrain:
Grace, grace, God's grace
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within
Grace, grace, God's grace
Grace that is greater than all our sin

Sin and despair like the sea waves cold
Threaten the soul with infinite loss
Grace the is greater, yes, grace untold
Points to the refuge, the mighty cross

Dark is the stain that we cannot hide
What can avail to wash it away
Look! There is flowing a crimson tide
Whiter than snow may you be today

Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace
Freely bestowed on all who believe
You that are longing to see his face
Will you this moment his grace receive?
